SCION Internet - Highly secure data exchange.
With SCION, a new Internet architecture from ETH Zurich, you can take the security of your communications to a whole new level. No VPN or uniform Internet provider is necessary. Within secure SCION domains, you can communicate flexibly and efficiently via an any-to-any architecture. You have precise control over the path your data packets take and can drastically reduce risks such as denial-of-service or hacker attacks. SCION meets the highest standards of compliance and resilience.
Note: Our contract complies with FINMA guidelines.
Secure Swiss Finance Network (SSFN).
The Secure Swiss Finance Network (SSFN) connects banks, stock exchanges, and financial service providers via the highly secure SCION network. Benefit from guaranteed availability, protection against attacks, and seamless communication in the financial sector.
Secure Swiss Healthcare Network (SSHN).
The Secure Swiss Health Network (SSHN) ensures secure and reliable data transmission in the healthcare sector. Hospitals, medical practices, and insurers exchange information in a protected and compliant manner—for trustworthy, digital patient care.
The Secure EFTPOS Network (SEPN) creates a secure basis for cashless payment transactions. Payment service providers, merchants, and banks benefit from stable, low-latency, and above all, trustworthy communication.
Secure Swiss Utility Network (SSUN).
Energy suppliers use the Secure Swiss Utility Network (SSUN) to protect their networks and systems against cyber risks. SCION offers stable, encrypted, and tamper-proof data communication for critical energy infrastructure. Energy operators must switch to SSUN by the end of 2030.
SCION Cloud.
With SCION Cloud, we are launching a revolutionary solution that has been specially developed for industries with the highest requirements for security, availability, and compliance. Whether finance, healthcare, or critical infrastructure — SCION Cloud combines the state-of-the-art and top-certified cloud platform from cloudscale.ch with Cyberlink's highly available SCION Internet for the fastest and easiest access to every common isolation domain throughout Switzerland.
The latest software version enables EDGE-to-EDGE encryption on SCION. This feature is already being actively used by some SSFN participants. Further detailed information can be found on the Anapaya website.
EDGE-to-EDGE encryption not only significantly increases data traffic security, but also reduces operating costs and increases availability to external partners. True to the motto: reducing complexity and costs while increasing security, stability, and availability.
The following points are required in order to use the “EDGE-to-EDGE Encryption” feature:
- Ordering the Anapaya Pro license from Cyberlink (contract amendment)
- Software version v0.39.0 (Cyberlink plans to roll out version v0.40.6 in February)
- The respective connection partner also has an Anapaya Pro license and the required software version
- Configuration of the connection on both sides
If you order the Pro license by March 31, 2026 at the latest, we will cover your additional costs for the first three months.
In this webinar recording, experts from Anapaya and Cyberlink show you how to connect Microsoft Azure services to the SCION Internet architecture. They will guide you through the configuration and deployment process and then show you how SCION adds value to cloud applications by ensuring trusted connectivity and complete data path control. These benefits are not possible with the traditional internet.
In this practical webinar, you will learn:
What technical steps are required to connect Azure workloads via SCION.
How SCION improves security, sovereignty, and reliability for cloud-based applications.
What real-world use cases SCION already enables today.
How SCION supports compliance and operational continuity for critical workloads.
Do you have the highest standards for compliance, performance, and availability?
Then SCION architecture offers you the best foundation. Unlike BGP-based Internet, which only addresses security aspects at higher layers, SCION is designed as a highly secure architecture. Within isolation domains, you can securely share sensitive data with your national or international communication partners. We would be happy to work with you to determine whether SCION is suitable for your application.
A comparison with existing approaches highlights the advantages of SCION. While the internet has traditionally offered high flexibility at low cost, dedicated networks such as MPLS have been secure and reliable, but also significantly more expensive. SCION combines the positive features of previous solutions and takes them to a new level.

With Swiss company Anapaya Systems AG, we are relying on a SCION pioneer with strong ties to ETH Zurich.
Anapaya is the first provider ever to offer SCION-based services for more reliable, secure, and stable networks. Thanks to the partnership between the two companies, Swiss businesses can benefit from Cyberlink's many years of expertise combined with Anapaya's innovative strength.
FAQ about SCION.
Who developed SCION?
SCION was developed at ETH Zurich, primarily under the leadership of Prof. Adrian Perrig and his research team.
Out of this research project, an ecosystem of industry and organizations later emerged, including the SCION Associationand companies such as Anapaya, which further develop the technology and deploy it in practice.
Is research on SCION still ongoing?
Even though SCION is already available as a market-ready product, research continues to expand the solution with additional exciting features. In this context, ETH Zurich plays a central role.
What does SCION stand for?
SCION is the abbreviation for “Scalability, Control and Isolation on Next-Generation Networks,” and thus captures the core of the technology: the scalability and performance of the solution, as well as control and isolation for users.
What stands SSFN for?
SSFN stands for “Secure Swiss Finance Network” and is a SCION-based communication network launched by the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and SIX for participants in the Swiss financial center.
